Hollywood & Bollywood Romantic Films To Watch In 2018
The Hollywood and Bollywood film industries constantly churn out romantic films throughout the calendar year.
Love stories are simple, and they bring a sense of comfort in their familiarity.
While romantic movies can often be hit-or-miss and even cliched, there’s been a surge of quality romantic films in the recent past. Here are three upcoming Hollywood films and two Bollywood films you need to catch!
A Star Is Born – October 4, 2018
Bradley Cooper makes his directorial debut in this movie, the third remake of A Star is Born(originally made in 1937). Starring Lady Gaga and Cooper himself, the latter plays the role of an ageing movie star who helps a young aspiring singer and actress make her name in the industry. For the veteran, however, age and alcoholism see his career go in a downward spiral.
The movie has already gotten buzz from critics and may be an early runner for an Oscar nomination in 2019. Will they be able to match the intensity and emotion of the 1957 remake starring Judy Garland? It’s going to be interesting to find out.
Berlin, I Love You – November 22, 2018
In this third installment of the ‘Cities of Love’ franchise from Emmanuel Benbihy, Berlin, I Love Youis an anthology telling ten different romantic stories in the German Capital. The ten stories are all closely interwoven together. With a star-studded lineup, Berlin, I Love Youstars Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren and Jim Sturgess.
The ambitious project also features eight different directors for all the stories.
Life Itself – September 21, 2018
Speaking of interwoven stories, Life Itselfis a film that focuses on multiple couples over different generations, all connected by a single event. The diverse cast is featured in a beautiful story that celebrates human beings and the human condition – love, complications and humour.
Zero – December 21, 2018
Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan returns to the big screen in a unique film that celebrates the “beauty of incompleteness”. The project was conceptualized and has been in the works since 2012 and features Shah Rukh Khan in a leading role, playing a dwarf who dreams of dating a film star. What he finds in his journey across the globe is love in various forms.
The trio of SRK, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif reunite in this much-anticipated film.
Sui Dhaaga: Made In India (Needle & Thread) – September 28, 2018
Bollywood superstars Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan pair on-screen for the first time ever in a simple tale about an unemployed villager who has to face the odds to start his own garment business.
It’s inspired by India’s ‘Make in India’ campaign and celebrates the human spirit – with a big element of love, of course!
